The first, and I mean FIRST, non-Nike thing' I ever bought was an Adidas Columbia soccer tee for last year's World Cup .My loyalty to Nike ran so deep that once, when my girlfriend wanted a pair of Adidas Superstars , I told her, "I'll buy them, but I won't physically PAY for them." So we walked around the mall until I found an ATM so I could get cash to give her, and I made her pay. I didn't want that pair of Adidas on my Sneaker Resume'.
I did cheat on the Swoosh once. In 1989 when the Reebok Pump was released I tried it on. I had it on for a minute or two, then back in the box it went. Is that cheating? Trying them on? The millions of "free" advertising you got from these athletes winning all of these big events is impossible to quantify ( that doesn't stop people from trying though ). You're knocking it out of the park so often that hardly anybody notices the occasional bonehead mistake . For the first time ever, the buzz for your product is moving into the mainstream in the same way that people talk about Nike and  even adidas, whom you surpassed last year in the US. | |
